About the Image Resizer

The Image Resizer scales PNG, JPG, and WEBP images to exact pixel dimensions. You can lock the aspect ratio for clean proportional scaling, or set width and height independently for a stretched or specific-fit output. All resizing happens locally in your browser.

How the Image Resizer works

  1. 1

GifLab decodes the source image into an in-memory bitmap using the browser's native image decoder.

  2. 2

The bitmap is drawn onto a canvas element sized to the target width and height.

  3. 3

The browser applies high-quality image smoothing during the draw, which produces clean downscaling and acceptable upscaling.

  4. 4

The canvas is re-encoded to your chosen output format and quality, producing a downloadable Blob.

Common use cases

  • →Preparing images at specific dimensions for a website, email template, or social post.
  • →Creating thumbnail-sized versions of large photos for galleries.
  • →Resizing product images to a fixed catalog dimension for an e-commerce store.

Tips for the best results

Downscaling produces sharper results than upscaling. Where possible, start from a larger source and scale down.

Lock the aspect ratio unless you deliberately need a distorted output — stretched images look unprofessional.

For web use, 1280px wide is a common maximum for full-width hero images; thumbnails are typically 300–400px.

Image Resizer FAQ

What formats can I resize?

PNG, JPG/JPEG, and WEBP. You can also resize static GIFs, but for animated GIFs use the dedicated GIF Resizer to preserve frames.

Does resizing reduce quality?

Downscaling discards pixel data but looks clean. Upscaling invents new pixels by interpolation, which looks softer. Output format and quality settings also affect the final result.

Can I resize multiple images at once?

The tool processes one image at a time, keeping the workflow simple and the output predictable.
